so, I just watched a ted talk on “ How your Body Language shapes who you are ” by Amy Cuddy. The key point of this ted talk was link between power and nonverbal behaviour. Amy Cuddy claims that science has shown that this link has to have some connection with our hormones. When we are feeling confident and powerful, we will open up & expand our body, however, when you are feeling insecure, our body hunches. She explains how Testosterone is the hormone of dominance and Cortisol the stress hormone. The former is excreted when you’re in a position of power, and the latter when you’re stressful.
Amy focuses on how Body Language Speaks volumes About you, people just don’t listens your words, they read your body language, your reactions to different situations. Some of them are so deeply imprinted in our human nature that even people who are born blind raise their hands in triumph after a victory. The most interesting fact in that video was the influence of Wonder Woman- styled powerful stance for two minutes on your body. It can increase our testosterone levels by 20% and decrease your cortisol levels by 25%. It’s called Power posing and this thing can change our lives. Visual aids were used in a effective way. Her personal experience with social anxiety, how she faced her audience is something we all go through. “ Fake it till you Become it” is what we all need. I strongly agree that we need to do it no matter how hard it is, and even how bad we are at it because it is better to do something rather than not doing anything.
